Yes it usually does. But since it burst so long ago and I was misdiagnosed, my appendix and colon created a sort of wall (at least how I understood it)which makes removing it much more difficult. I was very lucky, as I guess this does not happen in many cases. So now instead they're giving me antibiotics until they can actually get in and remove it. Apparently it could be up to 2 months.
As for the pain I was in severe pain when it actually burst, but the doctor told me it was probably just a stomach virus and after the IV treatment I was much better. My gut doesn't feel great now (off and on pain) but its much more tolerable. I still don't know what to do about my job/move either ugh.
