I can stand industrial metal vocals, I can stand Tom Arayan screaming like a scalded dog, I can (now) stand Rob Halford's operatic vocal delivery, and I can stand (really love) Pantera's vocals, but I cannot get past the vocals on black metal.

2. groove metal/thrash metal/industrial metal/NWOBHM > metalcore > doom metal/death metal (at least death metal has an experimental side to it) > black metal.

Black metal is easily the most experimental genre of metal. Sure there are the unoriginal Darkthrone clones, but on the other end of the spectrum you have Sigh, Emperor, Burzum, Ved Buens Ende, Blut Aus Nord, Mayhem (post-Euronymous Mayhem is experimental as ****), Bathory, Arcturus, etc, etc, et-****ing-cetera. All far more bizarre and experimental than almost the entire genre of death metal.
