I wanted the Kings for the sole reason that it can build the SoCal fanbase, if the NHL can become more competitive with the NBA teams in the #2 market in US/Canada that only helps the league, and the healthier the league, the better the chances of getting a team here.
I recognize that's a convoluted stretch of logic but I stand by it. :P
