I was thinking about Romeo and Juliet last night for no apparent ****ing reason and it occurred to me. Obviously the opening scene is about two guys talking about rape, but I never thought that since this is the opening scene, where the playwright is trying to win the audience over from the very start, Shakespeare was trying to entice his apparently misogynistic audience with a bit of rape fantasy. Kind of obvious now that I think about it, but I am amused that the Great and Powerful Shakespeare, Lord of All Things Literary, tried to give his fans rape woody.
