all creatures just want to spread genes... yet many have a hit it and quit it type of strategy, with no jealousy or possessiveness just raw open ended competition. humans are a pair bonding species because raising human children is a 2 person job - one provider and one care giver. yet we evolved from apes that exchange partners like crazy and have endless dirty ape sex, hence why we get into monogamous relationships and then fantasize about/cheat with other dirty apes that we meet.
