92. 16 Horsepower - Folklore (2002)

i certainly think that more albums by this band will end up on this before we reach 1001....but i can honestly say....and this being a huge fan of this band for many years.....their final studio album is....in my opinion their best

what's interesting is it contains only 4 original songs....tow fairly recent covers....and four civil war era folk covers....it also contains in my opinion their greatest song writing (Hutterite Mile) and their greatest performance (The Outlaw Song)

While i do not think this is the greatest introduction to this band....i do think this is their greatest album

this is as bleak as it will ever get

the music is simple...but well composed

the lyrics are the deepest darkest parts of all of our souls

this album is a must for all people interested in the tradition of folk and really of the darker side of the human condition
