Thoughts about several genres:
- Blues: You're okay by yourself, but I prefer to see you next to the words "fusion" or "rock" or, better yet, "garage rock," then you have a chance to be something special to me.
- Thrash metal: You bore me if you try to be all fancy with 5 guitar players somehow playing together at the same time or whatever, you have hour-long solos, or you have a singer that could make a decent living as an opera singer, but I like you when you are attached to the name Slayer, when you have a bad singer (an ordinary person), or your heavier instead of faster.
- Groove metal: You're pretty cool...but I can't help but notice the number of people that would rather die then listen to Slayer, are suddenly bending over backwards to buy your albums when you are only marginally different from the bands of the previous decade, which nobody apparently cares about.
I love you when I think of you as the influencer of a number of modern genres like alternative and nu metal, which are great genres.
- Black metal: you're also boring, except when you hail from Europe in the 1980s, then you're one of the best genres in the world.
Finally...
- Doom Metal: I don't like you, I've never actually liked you really. My biggest problem with you is when nothing happens, or it's just a ringing guitar chord for like three hours. I hate that; if you had a constant beat to go along with it or it was more uptempo, I would have no complaints–but no, you do everything in your power to make me dislike you. Your flagship band, Black Sabbath, has a singer that I absolutely loathe to listen to, and their very first song from their very first album is one of the most absolutely mind-numbingly boring tracks I've ever heard; and it's by the grace of God alone that I hit the "next track" button and, therefore, discovered "the Wizard" that I even allow this contemptible album to take up space on my computer hard drive at all.
Electric Wizard is the genre done right. What's that? I'm not allowed to call EW doom? Well never mind then, doom sucks.
