I've only heard bits and pieces of a lot of their nineties material, and they really haven't made me want to listen to any more of it. Then with their "revival" with Through Ashes of Empire, they've been doing what they do best: follow trends like a boss. Now they've thrashed up (likely due to renewed interest in '80s thrash) and thrown in melodic metalcore influences, and it generally works better than 95% of the bands they're borrowing from. Still, I find it hard to respect them creatively.
I pretty much have no problem agreeing with %100 of what you've said here, because you're right. I absolutely love Machine Head. But creativity has never been their strong suite. I still think they make great music, and honestly in some weird way, they've got they're own sound somehow, considering they completely shove it in your ear holes what bands influenced them. I mean, it couldn't be more purposely apparent in their music.

Machine Head does do a lot of the things right that the bands they borrow from, get wrong. That is in some way, something to respect. The guys in this band are brilliant musicians with tons of talent. I just wish they really dug deeper and just tried doing something truly their own instead of letting what influences them drive their behemoth band.

I've heard two songs from their new album, Bloodstone & Diamonds. Now We Die, and Killers & Kings are those two songs. Now We Die is actually a pretty crushing, and epic, sweeping track.

Here, check it out man.
