One other observation - "pure" rap, as far as I can tell, seems to be going down in popularity. HOWEVER ... I've noticed quite a lot of pop artists these days have adopted rap rhythms and meters in their songs - stuff like
this. I've even heard a lot of country tunes do the same thing.
