That depends on your definition of violence of course. I think he was talking more about people writing violent lyrics as opposed to you know, maybe protest songs, or allusions to violence. But my point stands: there is still a massive amount of music written, and being written, without any violence in it. Just listened to Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Incense and peppermints" for the Psych Album Club last night: not a hint of violence in that!
In any case, he's still contradicting himself and I'm interested to know where he stands on the subject?
