Also, the "this influenced that, this came before that etc.." thing doesn't matter at all. It's not even about being Punk or not. Genres are just labels that we need to make things a little more clear, but they are nothing more. If you pay too much attention on genres, you'll end up watching the tags and forget about the music. The genre, the influences, and all of that, doesn't matter at all when it comes to listen to the music. Now, forget about history for a moment:

Ramones = happy
Sex Pistols = depressive

I think that everyone will agree with this. It's a matter of fact.
Then, it's up to you whether you prefer happy music or depressive music. As far as I'm concerned, I prefer happy music.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, some of the best musicians around are quite depressive, and I'd say that most of my favorite ones aren't happy at all. But it's not for their depression that I love them. They have to give you something more. They might be soulful, they might be deep, they might be ironic or bluesy or energic.. but not JUST depressive. Trust me, it's not depression that'll make you buy an album and play it infinite times a day. It's something else.
