I was just at the Hollywood store. Main advantage over SF and Berkeley is that it's just huge. They had a really good stock of foreign rock titles also, like Bloody Hammers and stuff that is usually really hard to find in the US. Great soundtrack section too, as one would expect.

I usually go to SF or Berkeley because they are closer to home. I would say the SF store started going downhill a little a few years ago, and now Berkeley seems to be following suit. Less and less selection, but I think it's because of the overhead.

My record store clerk buddies tell me that records are so expensive even at wholesale prices, that retailers can't risk stocking something that doesn't sell because, unlike CD's, distributors won't take back unsold LP's. So even places like Amoeba, where you used to be able to find darn near anything, don't have near the selection that they used to. And all this because the Music Industry wants me to pay $35 for a new version of a 20 year old record. That's why I think this recent vinyl boom is a bit of a mixed bag for fans and consumers...
