Aesop Rock -
Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives (2005)
I guess this is all right, but, actually, I don't really know. I mean, I think I'm losing or have lost my grip on hip-hop. There used to be a time when I'd eat up Outkast, 2Pac, and Eminem, but now I can barely comprehend what is being said in rap. The only track I understood on this album was Track 4. I dug Track 5, but only because of the imagery. I think rap and I are about to part ways. I still like a bit of rap embedded in other music, like
Speakerboxx or
Hokey Fright, but an album of nothing but rap--I don't get it anymore.
Public Enemy -
Fear of a Black Planet (1990)
I'm not giving up on rap, nor do I despise it. Although this is my first time to listen to this album (I thought it appropriate considering all the racial unrest Stateside now), I get this.
