It took me a few tries to get through it the first time. I feel like every sentence has to be read a couple of times in order to be understood properly.

If you have any interest in returning to it (you probably don't), I'd recommend reading some of pynchon's other stuff as training. It took me reading "The Crying of Lot 49", "Inherent Vice" and "V" for it really click.
