I had a Hitchcock avvy when I joined back in February.
I'm torn between Rear Window and Psycho. Here are the reasons for the two.
  • Rear Window - To me, the true quality in a film is what you do with setting. How does the camera and actors work with what they're shooting and acting in. In this film you have basically one setting. You have an apartment and you have a courtyard. What Hitchcock was able to do with only those two areas to shoot in, and to make the film THAT suspensful still amazes me to this day. I love the film so much that I rented my apartement partly due to the fact that my bedroom has a fire escape outside the window. I hang out there and watch the world go all the time. Also, Grace Kelly was one of the most gorgeous women ever to live.
  • Psycho - This was my first Hitchcock film. The manner in which I saw it is what makes it special to me. Bryant Park in NYC does a film festival in the summer. Free movies, on the lawn, smack in the middle of downtown Manhattan. To see this film for the first time, with true movie fans, in the middle fo a bustling city, was something I'll never forget. People screamed and shouted lines. The sound system was surprisingly good considering it was competing with rush hour traffic. The night they showed it was gorgeous. Everything was pretty much perfect. I'll never forget it. It helps that the film is also kick f*cking ass.

Yeah, can't choose.
