I doubt anyone bought it thinking "oh boy, finally after all these years I get to play a video game that draws parallels to the Nathan Dunlap murders of 1993".
The game is perfect YouTube fodder and many popular YouTube personalities played it, then their fan base went out and bought it. It's 2014's
Slenderman.
