A discussion began yesterday on
reddit's Let's Talk Music sub with the headline,
"How Long Can Last.fm last?"
Users cited the decreasing number of applications supporting scrobbling, as well as CBS Corp (Last.fm's parent company)'s recorded a loss of £2.1 million ($3.4 million) in 2013 for their Last.fm division.
Still, Last.fm remains the longest-standing global music analytics engine (as demonstrated by this very thread which began in 2004.)
The data visualization plugins are fantastic and the recommendation tools provide a great service to the listening community.
Personally, I'm still dreaming of an IMPORT plugin which can add all the tracks from my digital library in one fell swoop. (I'll keep dreaming!)
Where does MusicBanter stand on the question of its longevity?
