Weren't you going to add a Hawkwind album to the list?

A few for your consideration

Prince - Dirty Mind (his best album IMO)
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing (First ever album to be made from 100% samples, surprised nobody has mentioned it yet and quite mellow in places)
The Go- Betweens - 16 Lovers Lane (80s Indie Classic)
Echo & the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain (Fantastic pop record, some great ballads too)
Portishead - Dummy (I think you'll like this more than you expect)

I think you could do Can's Ege Bamyasi rather than Tago Mago, it's only a single album, just as highly regarded and a bit poppier & funkier than their other stuff.
