Nostalgia or not,
Jurassic Park is still the only movie where you got to see realistic dinosaurs, and that will always make it cooler than the vast majority of "better" movies. And if you want to blame someone for it being just kind of a standard summer thriller, then blame Crichton, cause under all the cool science, he was just another generic thriller writer.
Just about any Crichton book I ever read I enjoyed immensely for the first half, and then when all the science was explained it stopped being at all interesting. Except for
Eaters of the Dead; and that was because A.) it was really short, and B.) the sciency stuff never got explained to the actual characters in the book, so the narrative itself always felt like fantasy. It was actually one of the most unique fantasy novels I've ever read.
