The Night Took Us In Like Family (2015)
Really digging this right now on my first listen, what a nice surprise. I was first made aware of it when someone added it to the anticipated albums thread. After seeing it pop up some other place, I decided to check out the samples and liked what I heard. Right now, this is one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in some time - abstract, boom bap, conscious, jazz rap. Great beats, great rhymes, awesome use of vocal samples, and minimal use of derogatory terms. The production and sample usage reminds me a lot of
MF Doom and
Madlib, as well as some of the more hip-hop oriented work released by Ninja Tunes like
DJ Vadim,
Sixtoo, and also
Wax Tailor. It's really smooth and feels like a lost classic.
