I've noticed that with the rise of boys being raised by single mothers has come a rise in notable female protagonists that are clearly aimed at the male demographic: Lara Croft, Xena, Buffy, etc. Sure, there is some objectification going on, but they're still treated as legitimate characters. I kind of hypothesize that women are becoming more and more dominant as
male role models, even if they are being altered in pop culture to suit our dudeness.
