Title: Clear spot
Artiste: Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band
Genre: F
uck knows!
Love
1. Decent blues track, no weirdness. When this guy sings he can, ya know, sing.
2. Same, with a decent bit of humour in it
3. Nice soul feel to this
4. Blues this time, and I hear where Waits began to think “F
uck! I need to get on to this s
hit!” Love the harmonica.
5. This is f
ucking beautiful. Real laidback westcoast feel to it. Superb.
6. Faster blues/soul hybrid, Waits vocal again. Not mad about it but not bad.
7. Decent track, nothing wrong with it. Not great but not bad. More harmonica. Cool.
8. Another ok track, like the background vocals
9. Nice uptempo blues track with, yes, more harmonica
10. Kind of almost a ballad. Like it. The hoarse voice makes it.
Hate
11. Kind of an example (the first on this album, in fairness) of the silly side of Beefheart I don't like. Not bad though: eleven tracks of twelve before I find something I don't like!
12. And the last is about the same. Still, as I say, not a bad ratio.
End result: Much more “standard” rock than I had expected, no stupid poetry, effects or crazy screams, and overall a much better album than I had been anticipating.
So, Love or Hate? It has to be
Love, oddly.
