Yeah, I hate this one. It gets complicated just because it's actually true that it wasn't entirely about slavery from the Northern perspective - many Northerners were super racist and actually were fighting against secession - but yeah, for the South it was absolutely all about slavery. The whole "Oh they just seceded for states' rights" thing doesn't hold water at all, because if they were actually in favor of states' rights, Southern states and politicians would have objected to the
Dred Scott decision, which of course they did not.
