Glad you asked moses.
I'll answer your second question first.
To put everything Northern Soul in one post would'nt do it any justice, in fact it would be a crime.
Northern Soul is'nt just about the music, for many people it's a way of life.
The Northern Soul scene is a means for rare soul lovers to get together, listen to this incredible music, buy and sell rare records and dance.
Wigan Casino.
It's a place, not a person moses mate.
Or rather it was. Sadly no more, Wigan Casino was demolished in the early 1980's. The Casino was a venue for Northern Soul allnighters. Without doubt the most famous Soul club in the world. Voted as no.1 venue in 1978 by America's Billboard magazine ahead of New Yorks, Studio 54. At it's peak it boasted a membership of 100,000.
This was no ordinary Soul club. No alchohol permitted and a place where the men and woman largely ignored each other, unless to talk about Soul music.
Unlike other Soul clubs at the time, like the Blackpool Mecca, Wigan Casino stuck mainly to a 60's R&B flavour, ignoring Soul with a Funk influence.
Other notable Soul clubs are (or were); The Twisted Wheel, The Torch and Shades. Today, in the absence of Wigan Casino clubs like The 100 Club and hundreds of smaller clubs around England and all over the world keep the flame burning.
Keep On, Keeping On!
Somebody ask me about rare soul vinyl.
