I've always thought Tool had been influenced heavily by Black Sabbath. I hear it even in their most recent album 10,000 Days. It's much more subtle now and not nearly what I'd call a dominate trait to their music, but you could pick it out if you cared to.
Tool is metal. And what this guy who has been ranting about how they're not, is just ignorant drivel. It's like he's got it in his head that a band has to sound a certain way or carry a certain level of intensity in their music to be a metal band. Metal isn't this boxed in genre anymore, it's grown, and it has it's obvious sub genre. It even did back when it was still a new sound tickling the ball hair of music listeners all over man. So I don't know where this Neurotripsicks gets their information about what metal is, but the guy is way off base here. And whether or not the members of Tool consider Tool a 'metal' band, does not matter to me. And it's a hilarious tactic for Neurotripsicks to use to attempt proving just how right he thinks he is on the matter. "Tool says they're not a Metal band so I'm right you guys!!!!" L...O...L...
Short of what I think of Tool is this. I love the band, put on an awesome live show when I saw them a few years back. They're not everyone's cup of tea. But that's fine by me.
