here to post an update

basically what i envisioned for this idea, which i had mentioned to vwls, is that it'd be good to have a video version of these playlists... just something a bit more engaging i think, to help people explore hip hop history through listening and watching

the way i utilized these playlists initially was to just download them as mp3's and listen to them at work or when doing something active.. seriously, there's a lot of good **** in there, particularly in the early-mid 90's lists. each year downloads as a single massive audio file which just plays back to back hip hop from that year for an hour or two

but i started getting curious about some of the songs i would find in the playlist that i'd never heard, and i'd go to the website to look up what song it is, then go on youtube and watch the video

then i started saving the videos... and i got the idea to make a sort of repository for hip hop history in music video form. so i started the process of going through the playlists of my favorite years and watching the video, then downloading the video and saving it to a folder for that year. the only thing is... some of these songs are obscure. some don't have videos. some, the only available videos are either fan made or censored. i figure it's better to watch a fan made video than nothing.. so i decided i'll take fan made videos if that's all that's available.

i hate listening to censored rap, so if the video is censored, then i basically redub it with uncensored audio if available. but then there's still some songs with no video whatsoever. maybe you watch this and see a song without a video that you want to have a video, find some video footage you think would go with the song and post it? i can sync it if nobody else can. i'd like to request help from anyone who is willing or able, though. not just with syncing or finding videos for songs without videos, but with this entire process. if you feel like you can help in any way, let me know.

cause honestly, i enjoy looking up these old hip hop songs and trying to get the videos... but at the rate i'm going it will take me forever to do this **** myself. i can only do this here and there when i have the free time. but i think this would be a good resource to have.. you have the education thread... here you can have another thread where you can actually go year by year and explore hip hop from the past.

i've only finished working on one year, myself. i've downloaded some videos for the years 91-96... but the only year i have completed is 1994. here is what a rough draft of 1994 would look like

note: there are still songs with no video in this compilation. ideally we'd find a video for each song, but if not, then maybe just the audio is better than nothing, or maybe the board will decide they would rather just remove those songs from the list. there were too many great songs without videos for me to remove them myself, but i'd like to hear other people's opinions.

ideally we could cover hip hop's entire history, from 79-current, but i started with the 90's cause that's the music i like tbh. i feel like if this is to work it'll have to be a group effort. but just the 90's alone is a massive list of songs/videos. any other 90's fans who want to contribute are encouraged to do so. if there are any 80's fans here who want to take on the 80's videos... that'd be great as well.

i figure most posters here won't like the 2000+ lists too much... a lot of mainstream club music in there. if it suits MB better then modify/add to those lists to include underground music you want included.. the general idea is just to have a chronological repository of compilation videos, representing each year of hip hop
