as for your criticism... i appreciate the feedback. imo, i would say it's more that they were part of a general wave of hip hop at the time than that they failed to distinguish themselves... along with wu tang, mobb deep, nas, etc. boot camp clik (the mega-group that smif n wessun is part of) are considered sort of pioneers of this sound, and their influence was widely felt. most east coast fanatics recognize the beatminerz sound as distinct from other hardcore east coast hip hop at the time, similar to havoc's sound, rza's sound, premier's sound, etc. though of course they do also have many things in common.
