I'm a singer and though I love Robert Plant I have to say Freddie gets my vote. His range is huge, he's so acrobatic with his voice and always maintains complete control all the time. If you ask a classically trained vocalist whether they've heard of Robert plant, or Bruce Dickinson, you'll probably have to explain what bands they were in, but they will know about Freddie Mercury.
Kurt Cobain also has an amazing rock voice that is often surprisingly overlooked.
