Currently I have two bands to mention which sound as if they inspired the sound of bands such as Nirvana, Pixies, Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains. The first would be Husker Du, who were an 80s alternative/punk trio. Latterly, I've found a couple of songs (for example I'm So Green) on Can's 1972 album which have similarities with some Nirvana tracks (eg: Milk It) as with other grunge stuff.

Can you think of any musical examples from the 60s through to the mid 80s which have similarities/influences towards the grunge genre? If so, which bands/songs?
