Well that was the premise of the book's 2002 sequel, aptly titled
Porno. The reason it took so long to go into production was because Ewan McGregor and Danny Boyle got into a pissing match when McGregor was replaced with Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2000 movie
The Beach. I'm sure there were other reasons, but
Porno is only set about 8-10 years after the events of
Trainspotting.
