Default Help with Artist & Song name 'What it is, what it is'

Hello - can anybody please help me with the song name and artist for a great, funky, American soul song, from what I guess would be the early to mid seventies, where the lyrics are delivered, by one vocalist, as a dialouge between a knowledgeable person and an uninitiated one in regards to describing and defining soul. The vocalist is an African American male and I remember lines such as 'You can't buy it in a shop' & 'You can't see it' and the uninitiated says a line that goes something like 'Tell me brother/ What it is? What it is?' and then you hear a choral refrain of 'S - O - U - L!' grow louder and louder. If I remember correctly the song then has a great flute solo after that bit. Thanks
