I don't know how difficult it can be. If you are serious about it then think about getting
Native Instruments FM8, it's a FM software synthesize, and hey it's used by Skrillex for his "atomic bass wobble." If that's going to far and you just want to do it as a hobby there are some decent hardware (oppose to software) equipment out there.
