Opeth still suck, though.
Any recs for some really heavy prog metal that isn't/crosses over into extreme metal? I'm finding that at least some prog metal avoids the cloying melodicism of stereotypical power metal (not that I don't love power metal to death, though), while being more unique and interesting than more traditional aggressive metal. I would love to be able to bang my ****ing head to some prog metal without having to say, "Yeah, it's heavy... for prog metal." Even the occasional Dream Theater song satisfies this criteria (think Train of Thought).
Preferably with relatively clean vocals, though, but use your best judgement. I listen to death metal and grindcore after all.
