Although initially Frownland's enemy, to the degree that he stole his girlfriend, which is to say his favourite mirror, it was revealed in a shock ending to season four that mordwyr was in fact the ex-mayor, ex-jailbird's half-brother. When the two fought on Overhang Bluff in the now legendary season (literal) cliffhanger, and Frownland wrested the mirror from mordwyr's hands, hitting him over the head with it and thus causing him to fall, he was amazed to hear his adversary admit that he was his brother. The line “Every time you look in a mirror, you'll see me” has gone down in television history as one of the most moving ever, especially when Frownland, faced with the prospect of saving his now-revealed half brother, or his favourite saxophone, which had slipped from his hands during the fight (Frownland later revealed he had hoped to capture the “true sense of man's conflict with himself through music”), grabs for the instrument and watches with a tear in his eye as his brother falls to his death.
Viewing figures for
Fall of a Pushbroom, Part I which ended season four and had the shock revelation as to who mordwyr was, though impressive, were blown apart by those for the season five opener, which resolved the arc and led to the character's death, still seen as one of the most iconic in the last five years.
