If you can recognize the value of genres, artists, etc. that others tend to dismiss due to the deficit of initial interest, experience or even just a general lack of awareness, I'd say you might be more "diverse" than some. The trick to breaking into new genres is to find a good crossover point for whatever you are looking into that doesn't immediately alienate.

For instance, while I like most of the obvious touchstone genres, I'm also a huge fan of so called soft/yacht-rock, contemporary (smooth) jazz, AOR and progressive rock: genres that tend to get marginalized or outright ignored by most music-related publications, communities, etc on an annual basis. That's not to say they aren't relevant or that gems don't exist that might appeal to a larger audience: its just that folks get sucked into preconceived notions/opinions by people who never explore any of those genres to begin with. They heard a Journey song one day at the grocery store and decided that all 80's rock music has no value. Or they saw Toto on a really stupid looking Greatest Hits Of The 70's compilation and never bothered to see if maybe there was more to the story of why some of the best musicians on the planet were all in some "soft rock" band together.

One of the fun things about a community like MusicBanter is sharing what you know to help break down ignorance and give others the opportunity to get a better idea of what you love and why you love it. That's probably why I've stuck around for as long as I have (coming up on eight years now), and hopefully you'll do the same.
