That means that people should be free to make those decisions based on the philosophy or religion they have accepted into their lives as their guidepost, be that guidepost Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, be it Allah, Imhotep, The Force, etc.

I'd just like to point out that, even if it is not a religion or philosophy, that science has a place at the "birth of life" debate. The concept of life might be an arbitrary one that has been created by historical human concepts based on instinct and religion, but whatever concepts of what constitutes life that we have agreed upon as being scientific are still relevant enough to keep the lab coats at the table.
