Oh you know what I mean! Actually, your sig is quite large. The ladies must be very impressed....

Note: before anyone starts saying "When are you going to add my rec to the list?" I have not yet begun the new list. I'll probably do so at the weekend. So your rec will be added, but just be patient. In the meantime.... back to bob.

Title: Masse Mensch Material
Artiste: Rome
Genre: Martial folk/Neofolk
Familiarity: Zero

Expectations: Not the first idea. From Luxembourg apparently but the titles all look to be in German...

1. Sonnengötter : This is a nice ambient opening anyway. Vocal coming in now which is whispering, but talking not singing. That was quite beautiful.
2. Der Brandtaucher: In contrast, this is much tougher, more upfront and driven by powerful percussion with a proper vocal singing this time. In English? Huh? Sounds a bit Bowiesque. Very native, very ethnic. Like this too.
3. Das Feuerordal: This has a slow, sort of romping quality to it. Enjoying this so far. Elements of Eldritch from Sisters of Mercy here too.
4. Der tote Spielmann: Sounds like a train rolling along the tracks, or wind at the coast or something. Very short. Would be classed as an instrumental, I suppose. Oh, there's some speech at the end.
5. Wir Götter Der Stadt : Liked that too; real sense of darker synthwave to it. Why are all the titles in German but sung in English I wonder?
6. Die nelke: Slower, kind of a waltzy feel to this
7. Der erscheinungen flucht: And this is a really nice laidback one.
8. Die brandstifter: Mixture of Waits and Cave here. This is great.
9. Kriegsgötter : Kind of continues the idea from the previous track. Very powerful and dramatic.
10. Wir moorsoldaten: Lovely orchestral style opening after some German speech, and it swells like a national anthem before the voice comes in, rich and dark. This is great. Reminds me of something classical, can't quite remember what though.
11. Neue erinnerung:Great acoustic guitar driving this, the percussion is well done and the kind of wails in the background work really well too.
12. Nachtklang: Something like a chant, or a choir at a mass, almost like it's in the distance, guitar I think chopping towards the forefront now, very slowly. Actually, sounds like the choir thing is remaining in the background and not coming any closer, as we're now more than halfway through the track. No, it didn't. Interesting.

End result: I don't know why, but I kind of feared this might be a really really weird album and hard to get into. I was surprised when it started so well and it just really got better from there on. Back on track with the b-man!

So, Love or Hate? L is for Luxembourg. L is also for Love.
