ive listened to Daydream Nation and Sister. Sister actually has one of my favorite songs from them Catholic Block. To me SY doesn't sound like an 80's band or a 90's band for that matter, I can't tie their sound to a specific era however their image as a band i tie to the 90's.

Well Sonic Youth and their peers in the 80's all had very original and distinct sounds but were all rooted in a post punk framework. These bands were: Big Black, Dinosaur (later Dinosaur Jr.), The Butthole Surfers, and Swans.
