Well, if Marxism is your thing:
Basically, the author is suggesting that there will be a series of dramatic technological innovations. These will result in a correspondingly dramatic change in the "base", that is people's relationship to production. These changes will then necessitate changes to the superstructure. The changes in the base and superstructure will result in dialectal changes. These changes will then put us on the road to socialism, and from there communism.
I feel it's bull**** because the author drastically overstated where we are as a society. It's unrealistic to expect liberating technologies to come about where we are a society that is still dominated by the sort of crass racism that has been so prevalent in this thread - where supporters of a self-proclaimed sociaist get upset because said socialist's speech was interrupted to discuss.... racism. Lol. The contradictions, they abound.
