Education first, I guess. Hard for somebody to get a job that can get them out of the ghetto when their only choices are burger flipper or gangbanger. So all we gotta do to get the ball rolling is overhaul the entire education system.
Personally, I'd like to see less focus on the idea of getting every single student into college, and ignoring all other aspects of a student's development. Whenever someone doesn't get those test scores, or can't afford college, or just plain doesn't connect with how modern institutionalized learning does or doesn't apply to their own lives, then they basically become discarded by America's education system, since they are no longer following the one and only path it cares about.
Vocational training should go hand in hand with math and science, along with everything from how to balance a checkbook to what in the living hell is equity?
