We don't
need another Dylan, but I believe most songwriters today smile and nod when they are told what to do. Now someone like Jack White, who idolizes Dylan in many ways, won't let the record company tell him who he is or what he should be.
After the release of Elephant, one of the heaviest rock albums of '04, Jack came back to the drawing board with his piano, a mandolin, a marimba, and acoustic guitar. Alot of people said, "This isn't the White Stripes!" But to hell with those people, who are you to say that the Stripes are simply a 'garage rock duo'.
Dylan was HATED when he backed himself with a band and started playing electric guitar. He got BOOED. He didn't care, it was what he wanted to do, even though everyone else told him to go back to his acoustic guitar.
