Robert Johnson - Steady Rollin' Man

Quote:
An odd release on an odd British label called Touched.
There's been a theory floating around for a few years now that the Robert Johnson recordings we've all been hearing for many years have been at the wrong speed, that they've been too fast. Sounds nutty doesn't it? Well, it does until you start hearing the slowed down versions that make up this album. An interesting article on this can be found at the vendor's site here: Steady Rollin’ Man: a revolutionary critique of Robert Johnson
When you slow down a recording, particularly a voice, it is generally pretty evident that you've done so. The articulations get all sloppy and odd, with things like the letter "s" seeming to go on far too long even with fairly subtle changes. There's no sign of that here, his voice seems completely natural. It also changes the thin, wavering vocals we've become used to to something much more akin to his contemporaries.
I suppose the jury's still out on this, but I'm starting to lean a bit towards this theory being correct..
I concur.
