The answer to whether the story of Jesus and Mary is historical true is lost to time. If want to believe fine, if you don't want to believe fine. God gave everyone a free will and when a person decides one way or another, then their free will should be respected. However historically debatable are the stories in the New Testament, the persecution of early Christian and writings of early Church fathers are true. The historicity of that can not be denied. Persecution is not a thing of the past. The persecution of the past 50 years excedes that of early church history.

I guess one of the draws to Christianity is the connection to those who were persecuted for their faith. When ISIS kills someone for being a Christian it is as if they killed someone in my family.
