ked has lived here for eight years before she returned to the States for university. We met at uni, got married after we graduated, and returned to Japan. I'd never been here before, but I knew what I was getting into. ked had already to me that we'd be outsiders here forever no matter what. And I was fine with that.
Why?
Because I want to be left alone. I don't want a society or a government to interfere even in the slightest way with my life, my family, and how I raise my children. In Japan, I can create my own culture in my home, within my family and circle of friends. The Japanese system excludes us so much that no one ever asks what's going on in our lives, the education of our children, etc. It's perfect.
The only way I "participate" in society at large is through the payment of my taxes.
