I think the biggest problem with the genre is that almost none of those bands know how to compose good symphonic music, whis kind of defeats the purpose. Also, the singers usually try (and fail) to sing in a "classical" style. I know I said Nightwish were ok, but I like them for the power metal, pop, folk music and prog stylings, not for the strings and pseudo-operatic vocals (which is why Anette, not Tarja, was the best).
