Phoned in? I'm sorry but there's no way that Dog Man Star was phoned in. No one phones in songs like Still Life or The Asphalt World. Not one of the songs on DMS is done in a half hearted or "will this do?" attitude.
And there was nothing "standard" about Dummy at the time. It helped create the standard that few if anyone reached afterwards - Massive Attack did with Mezzanine.
