Personally, I think this is what separates an audiophile from - say - a metalhead or hipster. Those labels apply to people who like a particular type of music and close themselves off to others (exceptions exist, but this is true for the most part). I pride myself in being an audiophile and if I find a style of music I've never heard before, I will most definitely give it a chance.
I think that's a good way to put it. I obviously haven't heard every genre of music out there, but I listen at least a little bit of every genre I have heard and I'm always open to hearing new genres.
