Valence - Mental Abrasion (Yorkedaddy)

1. Solitary Chamber - Aptly titled track, very drony and industrial track with nice guitars (I think) and electronics. About halfway through we get some interruptive noisy guitar that doesn't really work at first but slips in nicely with the transition. Cool explosive ideas near the end that make the track stronger. I feel like it could be better, maybe with more continuous or diverse guitar, but it works. 6/10

2. Needles - Again nice with the name, the high pitched feedback in the beginning is needly. This is like some drony blackgaze thing, hipster metal basically. Honestly a little too pretty for me. It needs more edge to make the drones more dynamic. It kind of reaches that point at about three minutes in. Ooh, extra points for that carnival-esque ending. 6/10

3. Blood Soul - Industrial intro. The guitar is kinda whack tbh, needs to meld in a bit better. When the drone changes they go well together though. That bass part is really nice. I think your metal would benefit from more chaos, but I think that your electronica comes through strongly here. About two minutes in it gets a little bit more towards that chaos, pulling in some black metal styles and taking it into a darker direction. Symphonic melodies put up against blistering noise? Hell ja. That was cool and made the track. 8/10

4. Collapsing - There we go, now that is a guitar intro. Trippy drony electronics, this is some badass industrial. The arpeggiator is kinda unnecessary though. I would have gone with a more layered drone/noise wall thing. 6/10

5. Undone - Starts off a little more melodically than the other intros, but doesn't really grab me. I mean it's fine, just not my thing really. Then it goes into an acoustic thing that's still just whatever. Nice textures on some of the distorted guitars. Meh, least favourite so far. 2/10 just not my thing.

6. Finding the Void - Ambient, industrial, echoey guitar. This sounds more like a more industrial Daydream Society track than a metal track. Meh, up your metal game son. 3/10

7. Sludge Valley (Where Dreams come True) - Bassy, almost classical sounding intro that's cool. Goes into some shoegazey happy metal, I'd almost call it post-hardcore with an industrial edge. Pretty good actually, best guitar work I've heard from you yet. 8/10

Final verdict: Not bad. I think you need drums in your music, and this album suffers from the same problem that I had with For Now with the predictable structure. It just came off as lazy at some points. I want to be more surprised. The industrial and drony elements of it are done really well though. I hope this was constructive.

Rating: 6/10 because I think you can do a lot better.

Review The Beatloads if you like. You'd probably dig it more than my other releases.
