I'm sure his career involves that too, but he's probably more resilient than I am in the face of it, and he's probably doing work that is in some way meaningful or useful, unlike mine.  |
When he's out on a ship his workdays take up pretty much every moment he's awake and when he's on land he does spend a lot of time doing things like writing proposals. I don't think the spends much time competing with other people for work though. He's built up a big network of connections over the years and is enough of an expert in his field that people seek him out instead of the other way around.
