Reasons Why I Love Travis Scott

When I first really started getting into hip-hop, I was introduced to an artist that made the transition into the genre much easier. I'm talking of course about Travis Scott. People will say "well, he's not really hip-hop" and that is true. But for me to be someone that never really knew a lot about the genre, and get introduced to an artist that has fragments of the genre while still making it his own, it's certainly a special thing.

He's not the smartest person in regards to lyrics and I can certainly understand why people seem to go the quick route and assume this guy has no talent. Thing is, sometimes with music, there really doesn't need to be something mindblowing or out of this world in order to be good. Travis Scott takes a formula that has worked for a while, and turns it into something that isn't only catchy, but super easy to listen to over and over again.

My first introduction was with Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, and ever since listening to that album for the first time, I've been hooked ever since. People are always curious about what I hear when I hear the album, and what I hear is simply: something catchy and fun and something that doesn't take itself too seriously. That's not to say I don't take his music seriously or he doesn't for that matter. It's obvious that he's found his own niche and it works. Even in the Rodeo album he teamed up with some great people to make a truly fantastic album that can be spun again and again without getting too repetitive or old.

Lately, I have been bumping Rodeo far more than Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, and it's because it gave me the same satisfaction that Birds gave me when I heard it for the first time. It's something you can both have in the background, and realize it's extremely catchy at the same time. At the end of the day, that's really all I like about it is that it's easy to get into, the lyrics are fun, and it's super fun and catchy. But again, Rodeo isn't something mindblowing or groundbreaking, but it really doesn't have to be. It is it's own thing and it works.

So, my reasoning for liking Travis Scott really just boils down to a few things.
  1. it was my first real introduction to trap and super chill hip hop
  2. reminds me of the time i got super high and listened to the whole thing. the album is fantastic high.
  3. it's fun.

At the end of the day, I really don't have to justify why I like him, because it is my own reasoning. I've explained why I rate the albums the way I do, and I've explained why I like his music. It's catchy. It's fun. It doesn't try too hard. I'm not going to say it's the best thing I've ever heard, because obviously it isn't. But if you automatically put Travis Scott into the category of "mediocre", you obviously have not let yourself stop being so uptight to realize that it's meant to be catchy and fun. I get that people want to be into the weirdest thing ever made and y'know, some of that is just fine. But at some points there is some things that are just fun to listen to because...it's fun. There really needs to be no other reason than that.
